Mom: One of the most important jobs in my life is being a mom to my three children. As a parent, I believe that having a safe community play an important role in ensuring that our children can grow up connected to others, while still getting to enjoy their youth. It's important to have a city that provides safe outdoor parks and spaces for young families, but also gives our kids the opportunity to connect to the community when they're older. Being a parent is one of the lenses I'll use to tackle community issues.
Business Owner: As a small business owner, I know how hard it is to take the risk to provide a livelihood for yourself, but as importantly, to bear the weight of the livelihoods of your employees on your shoulders. That's why as a city councilor, I want to work to encourage business activity in our town, and make sure that businesses feel welcome. We need to make it reasonably priced to do business in Sweet Home and encourage people to support local job providers.
Activist: As a board member of Timber Unity Association, I've worked to ensure that state policies keep people employed in our natural resources economy. Many of the people who live in Sweet Home and in our unincorporated areas rely on natural resource jobs to feed their families and pay their rent. I will use my voice as an activist to make sure Sweet Home values are reflected in our state policies and that rural Oregon voices are heard.
During this Covid-19 crisis, I've also made it my mission to build a robust network of shoppers and buyers from around our state to support local food systems. With nearly 5,00o people engaged in the group statewide, we're making sure Oregon is resilient to disruptions in the supply chain. Cities can play an important role by encouraging backyard "farming" and have policies that support self-sufficiency. Emergency management and security of important systems like food, water, and shelter are issues I'm interested in working on and continuing to grow efforts towards making Sweet Home and Oregon resilient.
4th Generation in Sweet Home: There is truly no place like home, and no place like Sweet Home. Four generations of my family have called this city home, and in their own ways, given of their time and efforts - in education, as business owners, and as citizens - to be part of the fabric of this community. I'm excited for the opportunity to step up and serve us in this new capacity.
